Scaffolding is coming down

Visitors to the garden this week will notice that the south front of the house is slowly emerging from the veil of white plastic and scaffolding which has recently hidden the house while the stonework has been cleaned and restored.

I wandered through the garden today and couldn’t believe how stunning the newly revealed exterior, gilded window frames, balustrade and refurbished masonry look. It will look fantastic when the whole south front is uncovered in December. The work is part of our ongoing Masterplan, a major project of essential restoration and development, which is being funded by the Chatsworth House Trust; all visitor admission income goes direct to this charity, for the long term protection of Chatsworth. It is great to visibly see how visitor admission is making such a difference here at Chatsworth.

The farmyard is getting spooky!

We have been very busy in the farmyard preparing for our ‘Halloween Hoot’ over October half term.

We have snake and reptile handling, craft activities and for the first time this year, Zombie dance workshops! We are sure it will be a thrilling experience! And we have been collecting the pumpkins grown over the hill in Edensor village ready for pumpkin carving. All the activities are listed on the Halloween Hoot page of our website. Our Berkshire pig Poppy and Amy the Tamworth pig are both due to have some piglets, so we hope to be able to welcome them to the farmyard during half term as well.

We’re also gearing up for our Warlock Walks which are happening on the evening of Saturday 29 October. We first hosted these last year, and everyone loved the spooky journey into the woods so much that we are doing them again. Everyone really gets into the spirit of things by donning their most impressive, scary Halloween costumes; we just ask that you bring a torch! Please pre-book on the website.

Latest addition to the Chatsworth Estate Holiday Cottages

Park Cottage, Baslow has been available to let for a month now and we have received some really good feedback. The cottage has a lovely cosy feel and the log fire will give it a wonderful atmosphere on an autumnal day. The garden has been given some loving care with the borders being given a new lease of life and lawn edges being re-grassed. The gated pathway to Chatsworth Park has also been cleared by our Domain Department and this gives access to wonderful walks in the Park. I have been tempted to nip down during my lunch hour and sit in the garden whilst enjoying the sunshine!!
